An elbow splint is a simple, safe medical support for your elbow.
It is very different from a common sports elbow pad. Its main job is to hold your elbow in a straight, rest position, not just for shock protection.
It is widely used in hand surgery and daily rehabilitation:
Stop your elbow from getting stiff and hard to straighten after injury or surgery
Help fix mild elbow sprains or strains without extra tight bandages
Keep the elbow in a safe position when you sleep, to avoid accidental painful bending
There are two common types you may see:
Soft fabric splint: light and comfortable, good for long-time daily wear at home
Hard rigid splint: stronger support, often used right after injury or operation
You should not use it for a long time without doctor’s advice. If your arm feels numb, cold or painful after wearing it, take it off at once and see a doctor.
