Orthopedic Finger Splint

Common Sense About Finger Fractures in Sports

In sports, finger fractures usually happen when you get hit on the tip of the finger, fall on your hand, or twist your finger hard. Many people think the finger is not broken if it can still move, and this often makes the problem worse.

Once you get hurt, stop using your hand right away. Use a hard paper board or ice stick to hold the finger in place. Put an ice pack on it and keep your hand high. If there is an open wound, go to the hospital to take an X-ray at once.

Orthopedic finger splints are very important in non-surgical treatment. They keep the broken bone in place, stop it from moving wrongly, ease pain and swelling, and protect the finger from new hurt. Most fingers will get better in 4 to 6 weeks and regain normal function slowly.
