Leg Brace

A Simple Guide to Leg Brace

If your leg feels wobbly when you walk after a fracture or surgery, a leg brace is a professional lower limb brace that covers your whole lower leg, even part of your thigh.

It is different from a regular knee sleeve. Most models have hard frames or full wrap support shells. It holds both your knee and ankle steady, and stops your whole leg from wobbling or bending out of place. It will not lock your leg completely, so you can still walk slowly on flat ground safely.

Wear it while your broken bone heals. It takes extra weight off your leg, protects the injured bone and ligament, and helps you recover faster. People with weak leg strength who often feel unsteady when walking can also wear it. It helps you stand and walk firmly, and lowers the chance of falling.

Use it the right way: slip the brace over your leg, line the knee hinges up exactly with your knee joint, and make sure the ankle support fits snugly around your foot. Stick all the straps tight from top to bottom. The right fit is when your toes can move freely and your lower leg does not feel numb.

Do not change the brace angle on your own. Follow your doctor’s rules on how long to wear it each day. Take it off sometimes to do simple leg muscle exercises, and your leg strength will get back much sooner.
